Us CMs in the videogame industry are also quite avid social networkers, in general. One thing that I find interesting is that we don't seem to have a lot of contact with CMs outside our industry, which strikes me as a little odd, because videogames are definitely a social medium.

Who told you that?! I've found the Facebook group to be really helpful in researching and exploring subjects... next to nitpicking Connie's brain of course!

I'm also trying to recruit Australian Community Managers to this group so we can form a little collective here in Aus:

I attended ConvergeSouth in Greensboro on Friday and met many bloggers whom I have followed for quite some time. It was nice to put faces with names and network with people who are familiar with your position and some of the issues that arise. So many of us were twittering while there and posting in the COnvergeSouth FriendFeed group. The day before, I held a session about social media at the NC Center for Nonprofits statewide conference and was pretty shocked at the lack of social media involvement, and the fear of something we embrace so easily. It was a great opportunity to educate and was happy to do it. I think community managers absolutely want to communicate with our peers. it can be a lonely job and we need a place to connect and commiserate. I look forward to contributing to the white paper.
