Thanks, Rachel.
From another out-of-work newspaper editor and writer, you made my day. I am in almost the exact same situation having discovered that there is no safe landing point for a journalist (regardless of experience and innovation) in the news industry. In fact, my newspaper axed me (the web editor) as a cost-savings move. I am now building a business plan from scratch and testing social media mining of companies and developing community profiles with no experience other than completely understanding that people hunger to hear their voice and news organizations were not keen on allow this. Thanks again and congratulations.

Just curious what you included in your FAQs. It sounds like a great idea.

Thank you for sharing your story. Things really are that down...you proved you just had to get up and go!

Thanks, Rachel

So, what's the size of the retailer -- revenues? number of stores? number of employees? And what's the salary?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for bringing your perspective to this. So we're missing Emily in this.

Connecting people is a great thing. You did a great job here & provided the support.
My role was quite passive. You deserve the kudos in encouraging Rachel to pursue it & providing her with the path.
Awesome job!

I'm the guy from New York, and I'm so happy I could help Rachel out.

I feel like there are so many opportunities for community managers to help small businesses get out onto the internet and start having meaningful conversations directly with their customers. It was such a treat getting to work out our 5 point plan and connecting good people together.

Also, none of this would have happened unless a) Emily (who works at the retailer) connected with me on Facebook after I bought a couch from them, b) she started blogging and mentioned it in a Facebook status message, c) I commented with encouragement about her blogging, d) she invited me to come over and help her put together a more comprehensive online strategy while I was visiting Seattle.

Then I met Rachel and realized she has really good instincts for this kind of thing plus a journalism background, maybe I can connect them and everyone will be happy.

Glad to see I was right.

I just tweeted to someone that this story truly inspires hope! and is based on blind faith in one's abilities to navigate uncharted waters!

And I agree with you Dave that it shows the power of social networking.

What a great story! And so inspiring and positive. I forwarded it to a client of mine who is working on creating a job for herself. Thanks for sharing!
